Flora of the Galapagos Islands
Published in Hardcover by Stanford Univ Pr (June, 1971)
Authors: Ira L. Wiggins and Duncan M. Porter
Average review score:

galapagos flora research
There is no other reference source that meets the caliber of "Flora of the Galapagos Islands". It is the official text of flora investigation within the islands. As well, it provides relevant information beyond flora studies. Description of climate, vegetation zonation, as well as species identification resources may all be found in this book. This book is critical for all flora thesis work within the Galapagos archipelago.

Excellent
Beautiful pictures. Interesting commentary. Obviously written by people who truly know and love nature, and who are on intimately familiar terms with the peculiar environments of the Florida Keys.

Flowers of Greece and the Aegean

Average review score:

Worth the weight
I am a professional botanist so my standards are high. I checked Huxley and Taylor's book out of the University library and carried it in my backpack for a month. The only thing is you really need a backpack with an easily accessible pocket if you aren't going to just keep this book in your hands.

FIVE STARS for FLYING HAWAII: A Pilot's Guide to the Islands
A "MUST HAVE" book for anyone planning to visit Hawaii who plans on flying/touring the Hawaiian Islands. It is the most thorough guide to flying in the Hawaiian Islands I have seen to date. Highly recommended for kamaainas (locals), as well ... they too will find much useful information in this handy, easy to take along book.

Full of information very useful in planning and preparing for your island flights, especially if you are not familiar with the various island airports/airfields or the local terrain & common conditions and the potential hazards to avoid.

This book is very thorough and contains many insightful tips including important safety considerations, best time of day for flights explained, typical and uncommon Hawaiian Island weather conditions and how they can affect your flight, as well as areas and conditions to avoid flying in and why, and much more.

The section highlighting sights to see is conveniently broken down by island. The most impressive sights are quite nicely summarized so you can quickly become knowledgeable as a tour guide for your passengers. The photos showing many of these impressive sights in the book are a nice touch.

Some other nice features in this book, besides the scenic photos, are the runway/airfield diagrams & photos for each of the airports/airfields, as well as some approach/departure routing diagrams. These are quickly found in Appendix A, along with all the important information you will want to know about each airport/airfield, such as elevation, runways & lengths, lighting, communications frequencies, services available, and more. Also a handy reference, is the listing of all Fixed Base Operations in Appendix B, with all the important information listed for each.

This book is full of lots of useful information, photos and diagrams summarized in a compact book that is easy to take along & refer to.

Highly recommend this book, without hesitation, to anyone flying in the Hawaiian islands or considering it! It is worth more than it's price in valuable tips, important considerations and as a handy reference.

Great, but get Fodor's 2000 not the 199

Fodor's 1999 Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island (Fodor's Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island)

Puffin along with Fodor's
Just returned from Nova Scotia and PEI - couldn't have done it without Fodor's to guide me. Found it particularly helpful for accomodations and dining. It would have helped to have a better idea how long the town-to-town trips take by car. While some roads are highways, others are more rugged and 60 miles can take 2 hours (without stopping to sightsee). But this is a minor complaint and overall this guide was excellent (so was the trip!)

Fodor's 1999 the U.S. & British Virgin Islands (Fodor's Gold Guides)
Published in Paperback by Fodors Travel Pubns (October, 1998)
Authors: Fodor's and Fodors
Average review score:

Excellent guidebook to the Virgin Islands
The British Virgin Islands have a very different atmosphere from their close neighbors, the U.S. Virgin Islands. This guide was helpful in giving valuable information that helped me plan my vacation to the area. The excellent hotel and restaurant reviews, as well as information on each of the individual islands on things to see and do made it a very indispensable source for finalizing my trip plans.

Fools Island
Fools Island is an immediately absorbing story that strikes all the chords of suspence, characterization, humor and even a love angle I found real and believable for our day and age, and a conclusion I found totally satisfying. I look forward to more of Krause's writing in the future.

Footprint Scotland Highlands & Islands Handbook : The Travel Guide
Published in Paperback by Footprint (09 September, 2001)
Author: Alan Murphy
Average review score:

Loving Scotland!
Having just returned from my 2nd trip to Scotland, and this time touring the Highlands, this book was by far the most complete and comprehensive of any guide book I used. It gave phone numbers, things not to miss, and even included info on "things to do on Skye when it rains" (which it did almost daily). I appreciated the maps and the little historical notes they wrote. I would recommend this book to anyone going to The Highlands for their first - or tenth - time. The only other thing you will need is an English - Gaelic dictionary.
